Cape Coral city manager hospitalized

2 min read

Cape Coral City Manager Gary King remained hospitalized at HealthPark Medical Center Friday evening after suffering chest pains on Thursday and subsequently undergoing a medical procedure.
Mayor John Sullivan said King was doing well.
“I spoke to Gary’s wife today,” Sullivan said. “He had two stents put in his heart and he is supposed to be doing well.”
Sullivan said that upon examination, some blockage was discovered.
“They came to the conclusion two of the blood vessels were clogged,” he said.
Councilmember Bill Deile will step in for King today during the city tour arranged for Maj. Gen. Keith L. Thurgood, deputy chief of the United States Army Reserve. Thurgood is in town this weekend to serve as keynote speaker for the Reserve Officers Association’s Department of Florida Spring Convention.
The Cape was chosen for the event because, pending Congressional approval, it will be home to a new Army Reserve Center.
Deile said it is his hope King will be well enough to make the convention banquet Saturday night.
“Hopefully, he will attend the banquet that evening,” Deile said, adding that he had not received an updated condition report and so was not sure if that would be possible.
