Pancake breakfast to raise funds for Kiwanis scholarships

2 min read

The Harney Point Kiwanis Club will host their second pancake breakfast at Club Square on Saturday to raise funds for the Kiwanis scholarship fund.
Cape Coral Municipal Charter School Foundation Executive Director and Harney Point Kiwanis Club member Kevin Colpoys said the club has not had a scholarship fund for a number of years and wanted to be able to provide some type of aid to high school seniors again who are members of the Key Club. He said they hope to provide money to help recipients with their books and supplies once they enter college.
“We want to be able to provide a scholarship for Oasis High School, Ida Baker High and Mariner High School because each school has a Key Club that we help to sponsor,” he said.
Colpoys said they held their first pancake breakfast three months ago, which attracted around 200 people.
“It was pretty successful,” he said, adding that the club is trying to host them at least two to three times a year.
The menu, which will be served from 8 a.m. until noon, includes pancakes, sausages, orange juice and coffee for $5 for adults and $3 for children under 6.
“It is really a good deal,” Colpoys said. “You can get as much to eat as you want.”
The Harney Point Kiwanis Club members hope to put the pancake breakfast fund raiser into a annual cycle, so the scholarship fund can continue to grow. The club has 25 members.
Breakfast will be served at the Cape Coral Power Squadron building at Club Square.
Although the Kiwanis Club sponsors high school Key Clubs, Colpoys said their club’s primary focus is on elementary and middle school clubs.
