A Cape Coral man wanted for reportedly touching a child inappropriately will be extradited back to Florida after being located last week in Oklahoma.
Gerald W. Brown Sr., 72, of 2117 N.W. Second Ave., was captured Thursday by the U.S. Marshal’s Service and booked into the Atoka County Jail in Atoka, Okla. He is facing capital sexual battery and lewd or lascivious molestation.
On Dec. 4, Cape detectives investigated a report of sexual abuse involving a child under 16. According to a police report, the alleged victim was a girl.
The State Attorney’s Office issued an arrest warrant on the charges.
Brown reportedly fled the area and was unable to be located.
Cape officers assigned to the U.S. Marshal’s Florida Regional Task Force presented the case to the task force. Due to the reported violent nature of the offense, the case was adopted by the local U.S. Marshal’s Task Force.
On March 16, a lead was sent by the Cape police to the Eastern Oklahoma Violent Crime Fugitive Task Force after the U.S. Marshal’s Florida Regional Task Force reportedly received information that Brown was in Oklahoma.
He was located and taken into custody.
“This is an example of inter-agency cooperation at its finest,” Lt. Tony Sizemore, spokesman for the Cape police, wrote in a prepared statement.
“From the CCPD to the State Attorney’s Office to the U.S. Marshal’s Office, the system worked seamlessly to capture a violent criminal.”
