Still time to take part in miniature golf tournament
Although the first Cape Coral Cup Miniature Golf Tournament, which is sponsored by the United States Postal Service, has attracted 95 golfers of all different age groups, they are still short of their goal of 200 golfers.
Debra Mitchell, customer relations for the United States Postal Service said so far she has teams of grandparents and their grandchildren, office co-workers, families and young adults.
“If someone wants to participate and they don’t have a team, they should come out and we’ll make teams up,” Mitchell said.
The event will be held on Sunday, Jan. 9, to benefit United Way of Lee County at Mike Greenwell’s Bat-A-Ball Family Fun Park.
The miniature golf tournament is being held, Mitchell explained, because she wanted to host an event that would involve the whole family.
The tournament includes a family and adult team category. A green jacket will be given to the top adult golfer and a jazzy green putter will be given to the top child golfer.
“My thought process is next year they will come back and present the next year’s winners with the jacket and putter,” she said.
The $10 registration fee for the event, which will be collected the day of the event, includes a round of golf, hot dog, chips and drink. The first 100 registrants will receive a free T-shirt. Children under 5 are free.
A maximum of five golfers can sign up for a team, with families having up to six members. The tournament will be held from 10 a.m. until noon, noon until 2 p.m. or 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Mitchell said if she gets enough people who are interested in the event she will open up another time slot from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.
Mitchell said she still has room to fit golfers in all of the time slots.
Those who are interested in registering are encouraged to send Mitchell an email that includes the name of the golfers, contact information, either an email address or phone number, along with a time preference. She can be reached by email at debra.j.mitchell@usps.com. Registration can also be done by calling (239) 573-9638.
Door prizes will also be available the day of the event, which includes such items as a trip for two on the Key West Express and a free round of golf at Coral Oaks.
The money raised during the golf tournament will benefit the network of 72 local agencies in the community through the United Way.
The Cape Coral Cup Miniature Golf Tournament will be held at Mike Greenwell’s Bat-A-Ball Family Fun Park at 35 NE Pine Island Road.
