State Fire Marshal’s Office continues investigation into kitchen fire
The State Fire Marshal’s Office continues to investigate a house fire that caused $25,000 in damage Tuesday.
At 1:03 p.m., Cape Coral fire units responded to a 911 call reporting smoke coming from the front door of a home at 304 Aviation Parkway. The fire was quickly extinguished, and no one was inside the home at the time of the fire.
No injuries were reported, according to officials.
The origin of the fire was determined to be the kitchen.
Detective Adam Rivero, with the State Fire Marshal’s Office, said Wednesday that the case remains open as state investigators wait on forensic analysis.
“I believe that it may have been cooking related,” he said.
Rivero confirmed that the homeowners were not present at the time.
“I do believe they came home and they found that a small fire had occurred on the stove,” he said.
The homeowner, Margarita Torres, could not be reached for comment.
After the fire was put out, the city’s building inspector red-tagged the home, officials reported. Lee County Electric Cooperative pulled the electric meter.
Colin Downey, spokesman for the Lee County chapter of the American Red Cross, said the organization provided assistance Wednesday to the victims of the fire. They have been put up in a hotel for several days and they were provided money to cover their immediate needs, such as food and clothing.
The American Red Cross also offered referrals to partner agencies, he said.
