Resident loses $28,000 worth of items in burglary
Nearly $28,000 worth of items were reported stolen from a home Sunday in northwest Cape Coral.
Police responded to a home in the 4100 block of Northwest 11th Street for a burglary. According to a report, a woman explained that she returned home from a trip to find that several items inside the garage were missing and that the glass slider door to the master bedroom was smashed.
The woman left for the trip Dec. 26 and had asked a neighbor to pick up the mail and watch over the residence while she was gone, the report states. The neighbor told police that he was last in the home Friday to drop off mail and that the residence was secure and intact at that time.
The missing items include a 48-inch Samsung LCD television and a 46-inch Samsung LCD television, two HP laptops, an Acer tablet PC, an IMB Think Pad, a Canon 35mm telephoto lens, a Canon SLR digital, three fishing rods, a 1.5 marquis diamond with wrap bands, a pair of diamond and sapphire earrings with a three drop necklace, a woman’s Movado watch and a men’s Casio solar watch, a Gucci face watch, three pairs of gold earrings, four gold bracelets, two sets of pearl earrings, bracelets and necklaces and a Dewalt drill set.
The value of the stolen goods is estimated at $27,950.
The cost to repair the broken slider is approximately $250.
The homeowner had an exterior camera system and the equipment was still recording when police arrived Sunday. Forensics with the Cape police took the hard drive to try to recover any footage on the burglary, the report states.
