Matlacha Bridge now open after being closed temporarily
The Matlacha Bridge on Pine Island Road is now open, as of 4:23 p.m., according to a report from the Lee County Sheriff’s office.
An earlier report from the Sheriff’s Office issued at 3:18 p.m., indicated the bridge was closed and expected to remain closed for two more hours.
A report from the city of Cape Coral indicated that one of the pilings on the bridge was damaged, and traffic was not being permitted to use the bridge until repairs are made. The city of Cape Coral issued a release concerning the bridge around 4 p.m. today.
Lee County School District buses were being held at various schools, according to officials. Parents should call their child’s school for more information or the School District office.
Cape Police advise that traffic currently is heavy on Pine Island Road.
