Cape Coral’s first baby of 2011 was a 7-pound, 3-ounce girl named Finley Michalak, who arrived 6:33 a.m. New Year’s Day at Cape Coral hospital.

She’s the third child for Justin and Wendy Michalak, both of whom were tired but overwhelmed with love by their new bundle of joy on New Year’s Day.

“I love her. She’s perfect,” Wendy said.

Finley’s birth was the exact opposite of every frantic Hollywood scene of a mom and dad racing to the hospital; Wendy calmly drove herself to the hospital at roughly 4 a.m.

Finley’s birth was the exact opposite of every frantic Hollywood scene of a mom and dad racing to the hospital; Wendy calmly drove herself to the hospital at roughly 4 a.m. on Saturday, while Justin ran into the doctor who was to deliver Finley, and the two casually strolled into the hospital together.
“It was funny, I ran into the doctor and we walked in together,” Justin said.
Maybe even more significant than being Cape Coral’s first baby of the new year, Finley’s birth date of 1-1-11 was a special number for Justin’s father, who he said always made a wish when the clock struck 11:11.
A Floridian at birth, Finley will likely grow up in the northeast, as the Michalaks plan on moving to the greater Philadelphia area in April.
Justin, a manager at the Ruby Tuesdays near HealthPark in south Fort Myers, will be given his own store in Morristown, N.J.
Despite being a little nervous about the move, Wendy is already looking toward Finley’s future,
“I’ll be happy with whatever she chooses to be, as long as she goes to college and gets a good job before she decides to settle down and have kids of her own,” Wendy said.
Finley has a 3-year-old sister named Jaden, and a 15-year-old half brother named Nick, who, much to Justin’s chagrin, is a Green Bay Packers fan. Justin is a lifelong Chicago Bears fan.
Justin joked that he hopes Finely doesn’t grow up to be a Philadelphia Eagles fan, as the family is planning relocate to the area.
“We’ll have to see about that,” he joked.
Finley was also 20 inches at birth.
