Theft reported after tenent leaves
A Fort Myers woman told police she believes a former tenant in her father’s home stole various pieces of antique furniture before moving out.
The woman told Cape Coral police that she allowed the person to move in to the home in the 400 block of Southeast 17th Street, in May. The person eventually vacated the home and returned the house keys while the woman was out of town, according to a police report.
When the woman returned, she conducted an inspection of the home and found numerous pieces of furniture, housewares and window treatments missing. The woman told police that she has proof of ownership of most of the items because she had them appraised.
The missing items are two wooden dressers, four wooden bedside tables, a wooden bed, four table lamps, six Queen Anne chairs, two oil paintings, three Steigel blown glass tumblers, a grandfather clock, a wooden blanket chest, three oriental rugs, three wooden stools, one Japanese Imari porcelain bowl, an electric fireplace, a red leather chair and a four-poster wooden bed.
The total value of the items is $26,650, according to the report.
