New traffic pattern planned for portion of Santa Barbara Boulevard
On Thursday, Dec. 9, at approximately 6 a.m., motorists should be on alert for a shift in traffic to the east side of Santa Barbara Boulevard between Southeast 12th Terrace and Southwest 19th Street. Travel lanes on the west side of Santa Barbara Boulevard will be closed to traffic, reducing both northbound and southbound traffic to one lane only in the area.
In addition, the temporary closure of Southwest 19th Street is necessary for crews to construct the west side of the road. Motorists are advised that left turns from side streets onto Santa Barbara Boulevard will be limited during this phase of construction. This traffic shift is necessary for crews to construct the new travel lanes on the west side of Santa Barbara Boulevard.
Alternate route: Motorists are encouraged to use Chiquita Boulevard or Skyline Boulevard as an alternate route because capacity will be reduced in this section during road construction.
Advance warning signs, electronic message boards and barricades will be used to direct motorists traveling through the area. While traveling through the work zone, motorists are urged to use caution, obey the posted speed limit of 35 mph and seek alternate routes whenever possible. Please be advised that unforeseen circumstances such as weather may affect the construction schedule.
