Man accused of molesting young girl

2 min read

A Cape Coral man remained in custody Thursday after being picked up on a molestation charge for an alleged incident involving a girl under the age of 12.
Richard Doucette, 40, of 1437 Viking Court, remained at the Lee County Jail on $200,000 bond. He was arrested and charged Tuesday on a warrant for one count of lewd or lascivious molestation, victim less than 12 years of age.
It was unknown Thursday whether Doucette had an attorney.
A woman who answered the telephone at his home declined to comment.
According to police reports, a man advised officers in October that he had recently learned that the girl had been inappropriately touched by Doucette while they were watching a movie at a residence. Others were in the room.
On Tuesday, Cape police came into contact with Doucette at a home in the 3700 block of Southeast 15th Place. A records check confirmed that he had an active felony failure to appear bench warrant for the molestation count.
The warrant was filed Tuesday, according to court documents.
Joe Donzelli, spokesman for the Lee County School District, reported that Doucette had briefly been employed as a teacher at Alva Middle School.
“He was an employee of ours,” he said. “I believe he started in August of 2007 and his employment ran through June of 2008. He has not been with the district since then.”
The victim’s family could not be reached for comment Thursday.
Doucette has a court date scheduled Jan. 18.
