1 min read

A 44-year-old visitor from Texas died Saturday after falling from a moving all terrain vehicle in Estero.

Preliminary findings show that the deceased man, Douglas Gibbons, of Freeport, Texas was a front seat passenger on a Polaris ATV who was riding unrestrained just south of Corkscrew Road on TPI Road. officials said.

The driver of the ATV and a second passenger told investigators they were traveling northbound behind another ATV.

The driver told officials the first ATV was kicking up a lot of dirt making it difficult to see so he hit the brakes to slow down. The back end of the ATV then began to slide due to the loose gravel on the dirt road. The motion caused Gibbons to fall from his unrestrained seat. Gibbons began to roll on the gravel and sustained fatal injuries. The ATV’s driver and other passenger , who were not identified, were not injured.

The investigation into the crash continues.
