Authorities have yet to release the identification of a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle and killed Sunday while trying to cross U.S. 41.
Sgt. Owen T. Keen of the Florida Highway Patrol reported Tuesday afternoon that the person’s next of kin had not been located. The person’s name, age and residence will remain redacted until next of kin is notified.
According to a FHP report, the pedestrian had crossed the southbound lanes of U.S. 41 near Brown Road and was stopped in the grass median. The person walked eastbound, entering the northbound lanes and was hit at about 7:40 p.m. by a 2006 Toyota traveling north in the inside lane.
The driver, Ashley Nicole Derose, 21, of Cape Coral, was not injured.
The front of the Toyota struck the pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The report states that the person violated Derose’s right of way. Derose was not under the influence of alcohol, but test results are pending on the pedestrian.
