Substitute Teachers Association to host training session
The Substitute Teachers Association will host a training session for substitute teachers on Oct. 12 at Cape Coral High School from 7-9 p.m.
The training session is provided to offer help for substitute teachers on the use of the school district e-mails and the People Soft Computer Program.
President Marvin Goetz said a year ago the association began training substitute teachers on how to use the computers at the school district because the district purchased new computer programs.
“We needed to get our subs up and going,” he said.
So far the Substitute Teachers Association has trained between 300 and 400 substitutes from January through June.
“Every substitute gets their own email and a website, which is all linked to the school district,” Goetz said.
The class is open to all substitute teachers of Lee County.
“We limit the class to 30 people because I don’t have a permanent place for everything,” he said.
Those interested must register for the class in advance, due to limited seating, and no walk-ins will be accepted. To register, call 239-542-1746.
The association’s general meeting will be held Oct. 26, at 9 a.m., at Fort Myers Middle Academy, 3050 Central Ave., in Fort Myers. All substitutes are invited to attend the meeting and memberships will be available at the door.
A meet-and-greet will be held from 9 a.m. until 9:30 a.m., with refreshments served.
Goetz said the general meeting is held to get all the subs in the loop of what’s going on.
