Southwest Florida Community Foundation announces Women’s Legacy Fund fall luncheon
The Women’s Legacy Fund of the Southwest Florida Community Foundation will hold its fourth annual fall luncheon for benefactresses and potential benefactresses Friday, Oct. 29, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Forest Country Club in Fort Myers.
Headlining the event will be guest speaker Debi Harris, CEO of the Women’s Fund of Miami-Dade, an organization founded in 1993 to fill the funding gap that exists for programs addressing the unmet needs of low-income women and at-risk girls.
WLF benefactresses also will vote on the focus area of next year’s grant. The WLF’s grant focus area for 2010 was violence and crime prevention and intervention. Grants were awarded to PACE Center for Girls in the amount of $4,500 and Children’s Advocacy Center of Southwest Florida in the amount of $6,000. The granting process is conducted in the spring.
In just three years of existence, the WLF has grown to more than 70 benefactresses and has been able to provide $37,000 in grants to benefit people and communities in Southwest Florida.
The Women’s Legacy Fund is a fund of the Southwest Florida Community Foundation, created to enable women in Southwest Florida to direct their giving in focused, strategic ways. The fund’s mission is to improve the quality of life in Southwest Florida through a woman’s perspective.
The Southwest Florida Community Foundation has been supporting the communities of Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry and Lee counties for 34 years. Through 331 endowed funds, the community foundation has provided more than $47 million in grants and scholarships to the communities it serves.
