Krym gaining support to serve as interim city auditor
City Council will likely support Margaret Krym as interim city auditor until the board interviews potential candidates for the job.
Krym currently works the City Auditor’s Office under Dona Newman. Newman resigned from the city auditor position last week after six years of service. Her last day on the job will be Oct. 15.
While its unclear when they will seek to fill the job permanently, what is clear is that Newman received universal praise from the dais during a discussion Monday night.
Councilmember Bill Deile said despite popular belief, Newman was not made to resign the post.
“Contrary to rumors on the blogs, she’s not being forced out,” Deile said “She’ll be greatly missed.”
Deile said Newman had been doing a good job of risk management, citing the recent audit of the city’s investment portfolio as an example. He said it was important for the office to continue to operate as such, which is why he suggested Krym for the job.
Deile said Krym could also be considered for Newman’s permanent replacement, which would mean hiring someone to fill her job.
“It’s incumbent upon us to keep that momentum going in that direction,” Deile said, adding. “I think Margaret is on board with the philosophy Dona was starting to instill in that department.”
Councilmember Chris Chulakes-Leetz asked council to put a letter of recommendation in Newman’s permanent file commending her on her service. He also supported Krym taking the reigns of the office, at least for the time being.
“We would already have a well-versed person in that position,” he said.
Councilmember Kevin McGrail said Krym would provide a seamless transition for Newman’s departure.
