McDonald’s looking for 24 new employees
A special “hiring day” will be held today for six Cape Coral McDonald restaurants from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The local company is looking to hire a minimum of 24 employees, with the potential to hire more. The positions include full-time and part-time positions for managers and crew members.
“We are getting ready for our upcoming season,” independent owner and operator Tim Frederic said, adding that October is usually when the snow birds start to come back into town.
“It gives us an opportunity to train them and get them ready,” Frederic said.
The McDonald’s hiring day will help those who still remain unemployed due to the economy.
In figures released Friday, the unemployment rate of Lee County remained high with 13.7 percent of the work force remaining jobless in August. Although it was an increase from 13.3 percent in July, it still remains lower than the worst unemployment rate statewide of 20.6 percent in Hendry County. The Hendry County high unemployment rate is likely due to smaller population and a heavy reliance on agricultural work.
In the five-county area, Glades had 13.9 percent unemployment rate, Collier County had a 13.6 percent unemployment rate and Charlotte County posted 13 percent unemployment rate.
Overall, 11.7 percent of the state’s work force is out of work, a figure that’s slightly higher then the July rate of 11.5 percent.
Frederic said he held a hiring day about three months ago at just one of the McDonald’s restaurants and it attracted approximately 100 people.
The six McDonald’s locations include 1715 Del Prado Blvd., 8 N.E. Pine Island Road, 2404 Santa Barbara Blvd., 2541 Del Prado N., 1619 Del Prado Blvd. (inside Wal-Mart) and 545 Pine Island Road (inside Wal-Mart).
Frederic said individuals should come with a “big smile” and a resume if they have one.
“We look forward to meeting people and, hopefully, offer a position at McDonald’s for someone who wants to have a successful career,” he said.
