Cape Coral to recognize Peace Day on Sunday at Jaycee Park
The third annual Peace Day celebration will be held in Cape Coral at Jaycee Park on Sept. 19.
Zachari VanDyne, an intuitive life coach and peace activist, said this year is history in the making because Mayor John Sullivan drafted a proclamation of peace, which is providing a contribution from Cape Coral and recognizing Sept. 19 as a day of peace.
“Peace is always a good thing,” Sullivan said.
Sullivan said he made the proclamation this week.
He said he will be at the celebration and will provide a short speech.
“We actually have a single day of peace,” VanDyne said. “No longer are we thinking about peace, it is actually here. We are starting with a single day…we are now building peace.”
VanDyne said he is not going to stop with Mayor Sullivan, he is going to contact all the mayors of Southwest Florida to have them draft a proclamation of peace as well. He eventually wants to contact the governor to do the same, so every “city and state will recognize the peace.”
The free celebration is held in honor of the International Day of Peace on Sept. 21, which was first celebrated in 1981.
Tiite Baquero, an artist who is currently working on the World Wide Peace Marker Project, also will speak at the celebration. The Cape Coral Fire Department will have a truck there for the children to enjoy on Sunday.
A Chinese auction will be held with a variety of items. A hand-made peace rag quilt made by Cape Coral resident Mary Hansen, a feng shui consultation by Nan Grover and an aura biofeedback scan by Meri Byers,will be among other items will be raffled off on Sunday.
Sunday also will feature free massages, music, artisans and many activities for the children.
VanDyne said this year they also are collecting peace food for the Harry Chapin Food Bank. He hopes to collect 2,500 pounds of food “in the honor and spirit of peace.”
“If we want the peace, we have to make the change,” VanDyne said. “We are the change.”
He said although the celebration of peace will be held from noon-5 p.m. the peace will continue to “go on from that day forward.”
