A 15-year-old Cape Coral teen died Friday after she was accidentally shot at the home of her boyfriend.
Ashlee Swazey was fatally injured after Dylan Wisniewski, 18, discharged a .22 rifle in a bedroom of the residence.
Wisniewski told police he did not know the gun was loaded and pulled the trigger.
Ashlee was struck once in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Wisniewski was charged with manslaughter with a firearm.
The accident occurred at 2125 S.E. 6th Lane at approximately 4:30 p.m.
There were several people in the home at the time of the incident and all have come to the Cape Coral Police Department to speak with detectives, according to Captain Lisa Barnes, police spokesperson.
Since the investigation is on-going, the identification of the witnesses would not be released, Barnes said.
Ashlee’s father was notified of her death and he contacted her mother, who was out-of-town, Barnes said.
Cape police were completing the booking process late Friday and said Wisniewski would be be transported to the Lee County Jail once that was complete.
