A 2-year-old child was transported to a hospital in Tampa in critical condition Monday after the car in which he was riding was struck by a semi-truck.
Three other people in the car, which was moving slowly due to a flat tire, were treated and released.
Fort Myers police responded to the two-vehicle crash in 4000 block of Winkler Avenue Extension at 3:45 p.m.
The crash involved a 1994 Ford station wagon and semi-truck. Officers investigating the crash have learned the Ford had a flat tire and the driver, Tenille Gool, 25, was traveling westbound at a slow speed, with her hazard lights on, trying to make it to a nearby apartment complex.
The driver of the semi-truck, Timothy Vanmeter, 35, rear-ended the Ford, officials said. Vanmeter was not injured.
The Ford suffered serious damage. All four people inside the car were transported to Lee Memorial Hospital where three were treated and released. The toddler was transported to Tampa.
