President presents Purple Heart to injured soldier from Cape Coral

President Barack Obama presented commendations to wounded U.S. soldiers at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center Monday.
PFC Corey Kent, a soldier from Cape Coral who was wounded in Afghanistan, was among those who were visited by the president.
Obama presented Kent, who lost both legs and part of one hand after his unit encountered improvised explosive devices, with the Purple Heart.
The Associated Press reported the president’s unannounced visit came a day before the U.S. was to mark a formal end to U.S. combat operations in Iraq.
The president was to travel to Fort Bliss, Texas on Tuesday to thank soldiers for their service in Iraq before returning to Washington to address the nation from the Oval Office.
Monday’s visit to Walter Reed was the president’s second since taking office, though he also visited as a presidential candidate. He has also visited injured soldiers at the Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland, AP reported.
