Six charged with DUI at sobriety checkpoint
Six drivers were charged with DUI at a sobriety checkpoint conducted Friday at North Cleveland Avenue and Hancock Bridge Parkway in North Fort Myers.
Nine hundred and sixty-six cars passed through the checkpoint.
The following are the results of the activity that began at 11 p.m. and ended at 3 a.m. Saturday:
– DUI arrests, 6
– No valid driver’s license: 3
– Driving while license suspended: 5
– Traffic citations: 33
– Written warnings: 13
The primary emphasis for checkpoints is to: Remove impaired drivers from the roadway, reduce the likelihood impaired drivers will operate their vehicles on our roadways, heighten public awareness, and educate the public on the dangers of drunk driving.
This weekend’s checkpoint involved members of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Myers Police Department and the Florida Department of Transportation.
