Arson investigation opened in Cape Coral apartment fires

A second fire at a Cape Coral apartment complex on Friday has led the State Fire Marshall’s office to open an arson investigation.
Friday morning at 1 a.m. a car fire burned at 4825 Tarpon Court, the same residence where the Cape Coral Fire Department battled a structure fire earlier this week.
Firefighters were called to the same address twice on Wednesday, first for a small fire in the front of the building and later when a carport adjacent to the residence was engulfed, as well as a Ford Escort parked inside.
David Lepper, spokesperson for the State Fire Marshall, said the fires have been deemed arson and a criminal investigation is ongoing. He said the fires are connected but the office has no suspects.
City spokesperson Connie Barron said the fire earlier this week began after a mattress caught fire. Damages to the property were estimated as high as $32,000 on Wednesday.
