A Cape Coral officer who was severely injured in a car crash Dec. 4 was released from the Cape Coral hospital Friday.
Officer Stephen Chase suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries after his patrol car collided with another vehicle on Northeast 7th Place.
Chase was responding to a possible burglary in the Gator Circle area with his lights and sirens activated when the accident occurred, according to police.
Shawn Angus, 33, received minor injuries in the crash and was cited by Florida Highway troopers for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
Chase, 24, was pinned in his patrol car and had to be extracted by Fire Rescue using an extrication tool, the Jaws of Life, police said.
Chase has been released from the hospital, but continues to heal from his injuries, said city spokesperson Connie Barron.
“He has a long road of recovery ahead of him,” Barron said.
Police arrested Luis Miguel Boza at the home Chase was responding to and charged him with producing marijuana and two counts of resisting an officer without violence.
An arrest report states Boza was responsible for a marijuana hydroponics operation based out of the home at which he was arrested, where an anonymous caller said he and another man appeared to be stealing air conditioner parts.
He fled when police arrived but was apprehended by K-9 units in a nearby canal, reports state.
The Investigative Services Bureau is investigating a possible grand theft charge in the case.
Boza was released from the Lee County Jail on a combined $32,000 bond Dec. 6, according to jail booking records.
