County parks in Bokeelia, Boca Grande to be renovated
The Lee Board of County Commissioners continued its commitment to Lee County Parks & Recreation sites with votes Tuesday for projects to renovate two popular barrier island parks in Bokeelia and Boca Grande.
The projects are:
n Lavender’s Landing Boat Ramp, 7290 Barrancas Ave., N.W., Bokeelia – Site improvements include adding six parking spaces for boat trailers and another six public parking spots. The public parking lot will be milled and paved. Other improvements include a new fire hydrant, improved lighting and a dumpster enclosure with chain-link gates.
Building improvements include remodeling about 1,000-square-foot of the first-floor staff office area, bathroom and kitchenette; replacing 22 windows with impact-rated window systems; and demolishing and building a new concrete handicap-access ramp.
The board vote approved a $1.4 million contract with Target Builders Construction Management Inc. for the project. The work is expected to begin in the summer of 2025 and be complete by spring of 2026, weather permitting.
n Wheeler Road Community Park, 305 Wheeler Road, Boca Grande – The project includes replacing the existing tennis courts, fencing, lighting and parking. Additionally, the project will include the construction of three new pickleball courts, a larger restroom facility with associated utilities, additional fencing and lighting, new shade structures and expanded ADA-compliant parking.
The board vote approved a contract amendment with Stultz, Inc., in the amount of $1.7 million.
The work is expected to begin in the summer 2025 and be complete summer 2026, weather permitting.
