GPIA seeks funding for lunches for volunteers working on island recovery
Since hurricanes Helene and Milton, the Greater Pine Island Alliance has had volunteers donate over 2,300 hours helping with recovery of the island. In collaboration with the Pine Island Chamber of Commerce and private donations, GPIA has been providing lunch for the volunteers. To help support local businesses, the funds are going directly to Pine Island restaurants.
GPIA would like to continue to thank the volunteers in this way but needs additional funds to do so.
“These outstanding volunteers are taking their time and utilizing personal resources to aid in the recovery of the island. The fellowship of taking a break from this hard work at a local restaurant where they can wash their hands and sit in air conditioning is greatly appreciated by the volunteers, some of whom have been here almost every day since the storms,” said Erin Lollar-Lambert, executive director of the Greater Pine Island Alliance. “We have had some businesses reach out to sponsor a few meals, and we are grateful.”
To donate, go to https://www.gpialliance.org/ or visit the office at 10484 Stringfellow Road, Unit 2, St. James City. As the response is turning towards recovery, GPIA will also be needing funding or donations of building supplies. For more information, call the office at 239.558.4901.
