Pine Island Elementary School opened its doors and welcomed students and families back to PIE on Tuesday, Aug. 10. It was a great day for all, according to Ms. Mendy Nelson, K-2 Literacy Coach at the school.

“We were so glad to see all the students back with big smiles and ready to learn,” Nelson said. “More than ever, teachers and staff are dedicated to providing students with the best possible experience.”

PIE Principal Tom Millins feels strongly that our children need to return to as much normalcy as possible during these unprecedented times. The teachers and staff spent the entire pre-service working on initiatives dedicated to the success of every student.

“This year’s emphasis will be on academic instruction, monitoring data and implementing teacher resources in all areas for the continued success of students,” said Millins. “This emphasis is necessary because many students lost academic ground during the pandemic. We need to get them back academically to where they were pre-COVID.”
