13th Annual Pine Island Labor Day Deck Party and Helping Paws Food and Supply Drive set

On Monday Sept. 6, Labor Day, Bert’s Bar at 4271 Pine Island Road, Matlacha, will host the “13th Annual Pine Island Labor Day Deck Party and Helping Paws Food and Supply Drive.” Yard Dog Charlie will be playing from 2-5 p.m.
The Labor Day party is a rain or shine event.
YDC, as he is often called by friends and fans, has been playing every Wednesday at Bert’s Bar, for almost 20 years as member of the now legendary band, The Yard Dogs. He plays what he calls Florida Swamp Music, which is an Americana blend of Cajun/Zydeco, folk, country, rock ‘n’ roll and blues. He writes humorous songs and folk songs about Southwest Florida-Matlacha and Pine Island in particular.
Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.
Helping Paws Animal Sanctuary is a 501(c)3 non-profit, no kill shelter, housing almost 200 healthy cats and kittens as well as special needs, FIV and FELV cats. They are housed in rooms not cages and are waited on by loving volunteers. The goal of the shelter is to not only find them homes, but to provide a wonderful home for the cats while they are in the sanctuary’s care.
Items Helping Paws needs include canned cat food, scoopable litter, dry cat food, treats, paper towels, trash bags, Lysol Disinfecting Wipes, baby food (plain chicken and gravy or turkey and gravy), canned chicken and tuna, goats milk, laundry soap (regular and HE), fabric softener, toys (they love small furry mice), cat furniture and scratch items, eye wipes, coupons, Paw Points (from Fresh Step Litter) and night lights and bulbs
And, of course, you can always donate money either by check or cash on the day of the event.
