About a dozen U.S. Marines veterans celebrated the 244th anniversary of the United States Marine Corps Sunday at Pine Island American Legion Post #136 with a birthday cake. The history of the Marine Corps began when two battalions of Continental Marines were formed in Philadelphia on Nov. 10, 1775. The youngest Marine veteran, Jack Gruver, USMC, cut the cake.
