M/PIFCD to display local artworks at new Station #4
Chief Mickuleit and the Matlacha/Pine Island Fire Control District invites local artists to display their artwork at Matlacha’s new fire Station #4.
“We’ve established a policy for displaying artwork on the inside of the new fire station,” Mickuleit said. “We have six spots in the lobby of the building for 24-inch x 36-inch artwork.”
To get the program started, the district may solicit entries for works of art or artists. Local artists can also contact the department for the application paperwork.
The district may engage a panel of judges, or a consultant, for recommendation for acceptance of art work. All works of art must be approved by the Fire Board or the fire chief if delegated by the board.
All artwork should reflect the character of Matlacha and/or the mission of the fire department. Artwork should not convey a political point of view or constitute an advertisement for the artist. Artwork may be accompanied by a plaque with the artist’s name.
Currently the artwork of longtime Matlacha, Pine Island, Fire Department supporter Leoma Lovegrove is on display.
“Anyone wishing to have their work displayed should stop by Station #1 for a copy of the agreement,” Mickuleit said. “If accepted the art will be on display for six months.”
