Between a few light rain showers, the Kiwanis of Greater Pine Island held its annual Fall Fest and Trunk or Treat Friday evening, Oct. 25, at Pine Island Elementary School.

“The weather seems to be cooperating,” Principal Steve Hook said. “I believe this has to be one of the best turnouts is several years. I’m very pleased.”

There was lots of food and plenty of candy, games crafts and inflatables to keep the kids busy. Foods included pizza from Pine Island Pizza, hot dogs from Centen-nial Bank, sno-cones from Got Ice as well as popcorn and other treats.

The event began many years ago at the Winn-Dixie parking lot and six years ago moved to the grounds of Pine Island Elementary School. It was started to provide a safe place for children to have a safe Halloween.

“We’ve been participating in this fun event for many years — in fact we’ve never missed one,” Ray Cook said. “We just enjoy being out with all the children.”

“This is the first year Tammy Moriarty has organized this Trunk or Treat and as you can see she’s done a spectacular job,” Hook said.

A “goody bag” containing candy and treats was handed to every child as they passed through the gate.

“We would like to thank Honc Industries for their donation of the inflatables,” organizer Tammy Moriarty said. “They always add lots of fun for the kids.”
