Lee County operations make adjustments for Labor Day

2 min read

The Labor Day holiday on Sept. 2 will result in some closures and schedule changes for Lee County operations. Here are the changes:

Solid Waste

All garbage, recycling and yard waste collections in unincorporated Lee County, the City of Bonita Springs and the Town of Fort Myers Beach will take place one day after the regularly scheduled collection day for the entire week beginning Sept. 2. This means that if the regular collection day is Monday, the collection truck will pick up that material on Tuesday. Tuesday’s regularly scheduled pickups will occur on Wednesday and so on, the rest of the week through Saturday, Sept. 7. Regular collection schedules resume on Monday, Sept. 9.

Lee County Solid Waste facilities and offices are closed Monday, Sept. 2, in observance of the holiday. This includes the operation at the Household Chemical Waste Collection Facility, 6441 Topaz Court, and the Resource Recovery Facility on Buckingham Road. The Household Chemical Waste Collection Facility will be open from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 7.

Parks & Recreation

Parks, pools and preserves remain open on Monday, but offices and recreation centers are closed Monday and will reopen Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Libraries

All library locations will be closed on Monday. Each branch will resume regular operating hours on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Animal Services

Animal Services, 5600 Banner Drive, Fort Myers, will be closed for the holiday, but will resume regular business hours on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

LeeTran

LeeTran will not run bus, trolley or paratransit service on the Labor Day holiday. Service resumes Tuesday, Sept. 3. Schedules and route information can be found at www.rideleetran.com.

Utilities

The customer service center will be closed Monday, Sept. 2, in observance of Labor Day.

Note: Lee County holds two public hearings on its budget before adoption, and they typically are the first and third Tuesdays in September. This year, the county’s first budget hearing is immediately following Labor Day. It will be at 5:05 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 3. The second public hearing on the 2019-2020 budget will be 5:05 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, and it is anticipated Lee County Commissioners will approve the budget following that hearing. Both hearings will be held at the Old Courthouse, 2120 Main St., Fort Myers.
