Be prepared for Hurricane Dorian
As Hurricane Dorian approaches the east coast of Florida Pine Islanders should be prepared for the possibility of loss of power and flooding.
Current tracking of the hurricane indicates Dorian will make landfall late Monday and turn northwest towards Orlando. However, the west coast of Florida may still sustain high winds and rain.
Pine Island and Matlacha are both zoned “A”. Zone A is is the most vulnerable area, the first to be impacted, and the first to be evacuated. Due to the low elevation and proximity to tidal waters there is a potential for a storm surge. If Pine Islanders are directed to evacuate reentry after the storm can be facilitated with a hurricane sticker.
This program is designed to ease re-entry. This is a voluntary program and is not a requirement. Residents are still able to re-enter by providing proof of residency at checkpoints, when implemented.
The Matlacha/Pine Island Fire District and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office are currently issuing hurricane stickers to Matlacha-Pine Island residents, property owners, and business owners for their essential personnel. Hurricane stickers can be picked up at Station #1 (Pine Island Road across from the Methodist Church).
You will need a driver’s license with a Matlacha-Pine Island address. Stickers are valid from 2018 until 2022. Please stop by during regular business hours from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. If you have any questions please call us at (239)283-0030.
