1 min read

The Book Club of the St. James Civic Association will hold its next meeting on Monday, Dec. 10, at the association building at Lemon Street and Fourth Avenue, St. James City. Welcome and discussion begin at 9 a.m. The meeting lasts approximately an hour and a half.

The selection for December is “The Last Days of Cafe Leila” by Donia Bijan. This powerful story of food, family and a bittersweet homecoming is set in Iran. Noor, living in San Francisco, missed her father in Iran and dragged her teenage daughter with her back to Tehran and the Cafe Leila, the restaurant her family has run for three generations. Noor must rethink who she is as a mother, a daughter and as a woman estranged from her husband and life in California. She and her daughter get caught up in both the beauty and brutality of Tehran.

The SJCCA Book Club is open to all members and their guests along with interested readers and listeners from the community.
