FOH BreastFest karaoke fundraising contest off to a record-setting start
From Our Hearts started the month-long preliminary karaoke contests to raise money for the organization, which provides breast cancer detection and treatment for qualified Pine Island residents.
The first event was held Feb. 2 at the American Legion Post 136 in St. James City. The turnout was record-setting with the largest donations collected that night in the history of the event. Nineteen singers battled for the two semi-final spots to move forward to the finals at BreastFest on March 11 at the St. James City Civic Center.
Representing the American Legion in the finals will be Olga Burt and Steve Rushton.
All karaoke singers are encouraged to sign up for the remaining preliminaries, which will take place on the following dates with all starting at 7 p.m.:
n Tuesday, Feb. 21 – Froggy’s
n Thursday, Feb. 23 – Pine Island Elks Lodge
n Tuesday, Feb. 28 – Island Cafe in Matlacha
Competitions were held this week at Captain Con’s on Monday and the Ragged Ass Saloon on Tuesday.
Karaoke singers can be in as many of the preliminaries as they wish until they become a semi-finalist. Singers are encouraged to register prior to the event but may also sign up the at the preliminary on the nights listed above.
