Hookers and Mariners donate tables to Chamber
Former Madam and Matlacha Hooker DJ Ruscik and Matlacha Mariner president Wayne Reed attended the Great Pine Island Chamber of Commerce meeting last Tuesday to make a surprise announcement to the group.
“I am DJ Ruscik and I am here on behalf of the Matlacha Hookers along with Wayne Reed from the Matlacha Mariners,” Ruscik said. “Over the years both the Mariners and Hookers have used the chamber’s folding tables. And the one thing we’ve learned from this experience is, there’s plenty of splinters and cuts.
“So we got together and decided to donate 20 new 6-foot tables to the Greater Pine Island Chamber of Commerce. These new tables have a durable polyethylene top and will not cause splinters,” she added.
GPICC president Melissa Jo Koferl said, “The Greater Pine Island Chamber of commerce has been given several new tables from the Hookers and the Mariners; and we are so very thankful for this generous donation. The chamber works very closely in events that are held between the three of our organizations. The life of our current tables has diminished over time and the new tables will certainly get some use by the community.
“Thank you!!”
Reed also discussed the progress on the planning of the first-ever Home Town Carney to take place this Sunday, Nov. 19, at the Winn-Dixie parking lot, one mile south of the Pine Island Center, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
