Greater Pine Island Civic Association

The Greater Pine Island Civic Association meets October through May on the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m., at the Elks Club at Pine Island Center. Pine Island Alateen

The Pine Island Alateen Family group meets Sundays at 7:30 p.m. in the Pine Island United Methodist Church youth building. Students in middle and high school are welcome to attend. Alateen is a peer support group for teens who are struggling with the effects of someone else’s problem drinking. Many Alateen groups meet at the same time and location as an Al-Anon group. Alateen meetings are open only to teenagers.

Pine Island FISH (Fellow Islanders Sending Help) offers volunteer assistance with the following services to qualified clients: non-emergency transportation to doctor, grocery, etc; lending mobility equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, shower stools, etc.; emergency assistance for rent, utilities medical, etc.; respite and In-touch services. Pine Island Food Pantry

The food pantry is housed in the Life Center of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church on Stringfellow Road in Bokeelia. The pantry, an equal opportunity organization, serves residences of Pine Island and greater Matlacha. Open Mondays and Thursdays from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., closed on holidays. Nonperishable food can be dropped off at the following locations. Winn-Dixie, V.F.W., American Legion, Moose, Stonegate Bank and the Matlacha Post Office. Pine Island Garden Club

Monthly Garden Club meetings are held on the third Thursday every month, from September through May, at the Fishers of Men Evangelical Lutheran Church, 10360 Stringfellow Road, and begin at 9 a.m. with coffee and refreshments followed by our guest speaker’s presentation and finishing up with a brief member’s business meeting. St. James City Boat Club

The St. James City Boat Club provides a close 50-member organizational and social forum for boating enthusiasts. We offer boating fun ranging from island picnics and other local day trips, to cruising to the furthest reaches of the Bahamas, the Tortugas and many other adventurous places. In addition, it conducts fishing, snorkeling and diving trips. Monthly meetings are held in members’ homes to plan events.
