2016 Pine Island FISH Basket Brigade effort begins
The 2016 Pine Island FISH Basket Brigade is under way for in-need families with children and seniors/couples to assure that they enjoy the holiday. In 2015, there were 90 families with 215 children and 15 singles or couples who received assistance.
Requests or referrals of Pine Island and/or Matlacha residents should be submitted to Mary Jo at 283-7862 or Carol at 283-9064 no later than Saturday, Dec. 3, to allow time for shopping, sorting and assigning of gifts.
A wrapping party (open to the public) will take place at 9 a.m., Friday, Dec. 16, at the Pine Island United Methodist Church; distribution will be the following day, Saturday, Dec. 17, at 9 a.m., at the same location.
Brigade members request that parents provide suggestions as to kinds of gifts their children would like (but please, no electronics). Brigade shoppers will do their best to accommodate those wishes within budgetary limitations.
Those who wish to contribute to the brigade may send donations to Pine Island FISH, P.O. Box 357, Matlacha, FL 33993. Please write “Brigade” in the memo line.
