In celebration of National Breast Cancer Awareness month, members of From Our Hearts hosted their annual OctoberBreast Music Fest at Miceli’s Restaurant on Sunday.

“October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Miceli’s Restaurant has always sponsored From Our Hearts at their restaurant,” Guylyn DeMeyere said. “They help us sell our shirts and calendars to raise funds.”

The entertainment for the day included Tommy Barr, who plays a blend of old time rock ‘n’ roll. Barr was followed by Pine Island’s own Strange Arrangement, which plays its own special blend of original pop.

“We’re very excited to have the new Skinny Water Seagrass Band,” DeMeyere said. “They play ‘seagrass music’ with a bluegrass feel. The group is composed of Kip Lawrence, Houseboat Jim Visone and Mecca Kellner.”

Miceli’s is donating 10 percent of the day’s proceeds to From Our Hearts.

“Right from the very beginning, when we opened 8 years ago, we wanted to become a part of the community,” owner Joe Miceli said. “From Our Hearts is a great organization and this is our way of supporting the community that supports us.”

From Our Hearts is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that raises funds to provide breast cancer screening and treatment (at no cost) for eligible persons in the Greater Pine Island / Matlacha area. FOH is united with Partners for Breast Cancer Care and Regional Cancer Center, Lee Memorial Health System.
