The Blue Dog Bar and Grill is holding its first Mullet Fishing Tournament Saturday, Nov. 5.

“This will mark our second anniversary and I’d like to invite everyone to come out for our first annual Mullet Fishing Tournament and fish fry,” owner John Lynch said. “Blue Dog will be hosting this fundraiser for the Pine Island Community Church outreach program. This program helps the islands’ elderly stay in their homes while home repairs are being made.”

Live music will be provided by The HipNauticals from 4-6 p.m.

“We will also have local artists, a silent auction, giveaways and a whole lot of fun,” Lynch said.

The fish fry featuring fried mullet, smoked mullet, cheese grits and cole slaw will be from 4-7 p.m. at $10 a plate. Admission is free.

For the fishermen, the tournament entry fee is $100 per team of two fishermen. The entry fee includes a Captain’s Bucket, including two tournament T-shirts and two fish-fry dinner tickets and other perks. Entry deadline is 6 p.m., Friday, Nov. 4.

There will be a mandatory Captains’ Meeting Nov. 4, at 6 p.m., at Blue Dog Bar and Grill, at 4597 Pine Island Road, N.W., in Matlacha. One team member must be present.

The pay-out is a guaranteed $1,100 in prizes: $600 to the first place team, $300 to the second place, $100 to third, $50 to fourth and $50 to one of the remaining teams by random draw.
