Members of the staffs of the Beacon of HOPE and the Pine Island Public Library met Wednesday morning for an “all-in-fun” costume contest and meeting.

“This is the time of year Lee County sets aside to fund-raise for United Way,” Library Branch Manager Linda Kroeker said. “We help United Way by raising money among our employees and the Beacon raises money among their employees. This year we decided to have a costume contest. The Beacon of HOPE does some amazing things for the community as does the library.”

The Beacon of HOPE, as a United Way House, assists islanders through a myriad of community programs and partnerships: Meals on Wheels, English Speakers of Other Languages, Students Achieving Success, Culinary and Theatre Camp, Bill Pay Assistance and many others.

“This meeting is to get the word out about what the library does, what the Beacon does and what we can do together to serve the residents of the island,” Kroeker said. “While this get-together does not raise money, it serves as a great reminder to everyone of how different parts of our community care for each other, and how we all work together to create a thriving whole – and of all the services provided by the Pine Island Library and the Beacon of HOPE.
