Beacon of H.O.P.E. has several volunteer opportunities available
If you are a people person, someone who inspires trust and confidence, an individual who understands the importance of confidentiality; if you’d like to give back to the community and are looking for your next “career” and have at least four mornings per week for volunteer work, contact the Beacon of H.O.P.E.
“We are looking for volunteer case workers who have a perfect blend of empathy and compassion, a gift for making clients feel welcome and who honor and treat them with a high level of respect and confidentiality,” Beacon director Betsy Haesemeyer said.
Also, starting Saturday, Aug. 6, the Beacon will be delivering Meals on Wheels every Saturday. Christian Cooperative has increased the number of meals it must prepare daily and its small kitchen can no longer keep up with the demand. The group currently produces two meals on Thursdays (for Thursday and Saturday) and Fridays (for Friday and Sunday). Weekends have less demand, so Saturday’s delivery will be for the both Saturday and Sunday.
“I will be needing drivers on Saturday. It’s a great job for a couple, or friends and takes no more than 2 hours,” Haesemeyer said. The hours are 9:30-11:30 (a.m.)typically. This is a great way to participate in the mission of the Beacon directly. It is also both rewarding and humbling to deliver meals to our neighbors and most importantly show them that we care.
“Also, beginning in September will be needing drivers for our SAS & SPIRIT programs,” Haesemeyer said. “This is another great opportunity for couples and friends. A typical day starts at 3 p.m. and ends at 7:30 p.m. A clean ‘regular’ drivers license is needed.”
All volunteers must first pass a back ground check to be considered for these opportunities.
