Once again warm temperatures, cold beer and great original music were all celebrated at Low Key Tiki Saturday afternoon. Attendees came by boat, car, bicycle and even golf cart for the 5th annual “Rock on the Dock” Songwriters Festival.

Kerri Harvey of “Gary and Kerri” kicked off the day with the national anthem.

“We have at least 13 bands this year,” Harvey said. “We started an hour early this year because we often have a few walk-ins and last year everyone didn’t get a chance to play. So we are trying to calculate that in this year.”

Five years ago Scott Adams, owner of Low Key Tiki, approached Gary and Kerri about a songfest-type event where local artists could perform their original music and that started the ball rolling.

“Every year Pat McCune opens the songfest and Pat opened again this year,” Harvey said. “Loren Davidson and David Ross are new with the songfest and we’re very excited to have Cindy Walsh this year. I think she’ll perform ‘The Pine Island Song.’ We are also excited to have Jimmy Louis here – he’s written songs for Waylon Jennings.”

Popular in the past, the event is growing each year.

“Every year we’ve done this event it gets bigger and better,” Harvey said. “We have a packed house and beautiful weather today and even with the storm last year we had a record breaker. This is the perfect place for this event. It’s very ‘low-key.’ Everyone has done a fantastic job and everyone has a great time.”

Low Key Tiki is at 3135 Stringfellow Road, at Mile Marker 1 on the Monroe Canal, in St. James City.
