Mahjong for Breast Cancer luncheon

On the northern end of the island, near Cap’n Cons, Bunk Green organized the first annual Mahjong for Breast Cancer event at her friend Karen Fryburg’s house.
“My experience with BreastFest has always been participating in the walk,” Green said, “but a lot of the people I’ve been talking to in the last few weeks have said they always walked but they don’t, or can’t, walk anymore. So I said, if you’ll give me $25, sign up for BreastFest, I’m going to feed you and we’ll have a fun afternoon at Karen’s house playing mahjong.”
The group frequently gets together to play mahjong and Mexican Train.
“There isn’t anything better than a bunch of women, laughing, having a good time and eating while playing mahjong and raising money for a wonderful organization like From Our Hearts,” Green said
“We had 40 women sign up for this first time,” Green said. “Each paid a $25 ‘entry fee’ to the From Our Hearts organization. You know everyone here today has been touched by breast cancer in one way or another. I do hope we can do this every year and add to what From Our Hearts does with BreastFest in St. James City.”
