Severe storm warning in effect; tornado warning cancelled

The National Weather Service has cancelled a tornado warning for central Lee County.

A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado had been located near Iona or 8 miles southwest of Cape Coral moving east at 40 mph.

Radar indicated rotation, the National Weather Service reports.

“This dangerous storm” will be near Harlem Heights and Iona around 11:05 a.m.; Cypress Lakes, Villas and Pine Manor and McGregor around 11:10 a.m.; the Southwest Florida International Airport, San Carlos Park, Three Oaks and East Dunbar around 11:15 a.m.

Other locations of possible impact by this “tornadic thunderstorm included St. James City, Fort Myers Villas, Estero, Page Field and park, Gateway, Punta Rassa, Whiskey Creek, Tice and Fort Myers Shores.

The National Weather Service urges residents to be aware of weather conditions. If conditions worsen again move to an interior room on the lowest floor of the building and avoid windows. If you are in outdoors, in a mobile home or vehicle, seek shelter in the closest sturdy building and protect yourself from flying debris.
