Pine Island Elementary to hold Veterans Day ceremony
Pine Island Elementary School would like to invite all veterans to attend a special Veterans Day Program at the school Tuesday, Nov. 10. The program will begin at 10 a.m. in the pavilion. It will include patriotic music and readings from the students.
“I would like to invite the community to attend this annual event,” Monica Renz, 4th grade teacher, said. “We will have special recognitions and special seating for all of our veterans. Then, following the ceremony, the veterans will have lunch in our cafeteria.”
Pine Island Elementary has been celebrating Pine Island veterans since the first ceremony in November 1997. Tommy Thompson, the principal at the time, said, “We want the children to have people and faces to put together with Veterans Day. This way, it becomes more than just a holiday. It has meaning.”
“This is also an opportunity for the kids to give back to the island because the community does so much for the school,” “Renz said. “As well as giving back to the veterans who live on the island. We look forward to honoring our veterans at this event.”
Music will be provided by Pine Island Elementary students and a special presentation by the students.
Pine Island Elementary is at 5360 Ridgewood Drive, near the Center.
