Officials form ArtFest Fort Myers stopped by Pine Island Elementary last week and presented the school with a big donation.

“The reason we’re here today is because the Matlacha Hookers are our beverage team at ArtFest Fort Myers,” ArtFest associate director Jeanne Seehaver said. “And, they provide an unbelievable number of volunteer hours to help us make the magic happen at ArtFest every year. In appreciation for that, we make a donation in their name to the Pine Island Elementary School. This year it’s better than last year. The donation is $1,600.”

The Fort Myers ArtFest, held in February, featured more than 200 national artists, plus high school art competition, sidewalk chalk competition, children’s crafts, fine food and lots of entertainment.

“The Hookers are there for us every year,” Seehaver said. “This year we had added a number of extra beverage locations and the Hookers, as they do every year, filled every spot. Not only the Hookers but some of the Matlacha Mariners were there also.”

According to PIE teachers, the donation will be put to good use,

“These funds from the Hookers help us to purchase special art supplies we couldn’t afford otherwise,” art teacher Gloria Van Duzer said. “We can do clay and ceramics and lots of other things with the kids because of this money.”

“I want to thank the Matlacha Hookers, Matlacha Mariners, Ms. Seehaver and the Fort Myers ArtFest for this wonderful donation,” said Pine Island Elementary School Principal Rob Mazzoli.
