The Pine Island American Legion Post 136 delivered a $500 check to Pine Island Elementary School last Tuesday. “These funds will go towards the ‘student incentives’ programs,” Frank Taugner, Commander of American Legion Post 136 said.

“This is a tremendous help to our students,” Principal Rob Mazzoli said. “We’ve already begun talking about some new things for incentives. Something new and different from years past to keep them excited. When a student receives acknowledgement for accomplishing something like reaching a reading goal in our Accelerated Reader program it excites them and makes them want them to experience new opportunities.”

The Pine Island American Legion Post 136 was founded in 1980. Their focus is on service to veterans, their families and their community. “Supporting the local community and especially Pine Island Elementary is something we do every year,” Taugner said.
