School open house Thursday

2 min read

To offer parents and students an opportunity to get ready for the first day of school, Pine Island Elementary will hold an Open House Thursday, Aug. 14.

“Parents can expect to meet their child’s teacher,” Pine Island Elementary School Principal Robert Mazzoli said. “We will also pass out some important paperwork for the parents to fill out and return before they leave that night.”

For free and reduced cost meals, parents may apply online before school begins at www.rocketscan.leeschools.net or pick up a paper application at the school. The school computer lab will be available during the open house for parents’ use.

“We will have bus routes posted throughout the front of our campus during open house and we will have Mrs. B available to help with bus information and translations for our Spanish speaking families,” Mazzoli said.

Monday, Aug. 18, is the first day of school. The doors open at 8:25 a.m. at Pine Island Elementary School. Classes officially start at 8:55 a.m. and school dismisses at 3:10 p.m.

Mazzoli said parents should ensure that their children are well rested the days leading up to the first day of school to begin the first week of school on the right foot.

He also wants to remind parents to make sure the required documents that will be passed out during the open house are returned to school on Aug. 18, if not already turned in.

“Parents should know how their child is getting home on the first day,” he said. “Students should also know how they will be getting home on the first day of school. Our staff will ensure that we know how all children will be getting home. Our teachers will ask parents during open house to write down how their child will be going home the first day of school.”

Pine Island Elementary School is located at 5360 Ridgewood Drive in Bokeelia. For more information, call 239-283-0505.
