Lovegrove to celebrate ‘Pride and Patriotism’
Leoma Lovegrove has invited all Pine Islanders to come join her and paint with her on Independence Day at Franklin Shops.
“This is a free event open to the public,” Lovegrove said. “The flags that are painted will be part of a collaborative piece to benefit and promote the Pride and Patriotism performance to be held at the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall in November.”
According to the website www.prideandpatriotism.org, the overall mission is “Youth Celebrating the Arts and Honoring our Veterans. The concept of Pride and Patriotism was born out of an advocacy for the arts and love of country, which together present a ‘pride’ of our student’s artistic talents in a patriotic theme with the presence of our veterans who afforded the students the opportunity to do so in a free country.”
The organization was founded in 2003 by Dr. Elinor Scricca. The organization’s committee is composed of community leaders, veterans and school representatives led by a CEO and board of directors.
Lovegrove is an impressionist-expressionist painter known for her depictions of the Florida lifestyle. Her gallery is located in the heart of Matlacha Island.
The performance in November will showcase local students and their patriotic thoughts and talents musically, poetically, and visually while honoring veterans.
